Psychodynamic Therapy in Los Angeles
If you're looking for a different kind of therapy — one that goes beyond coping strategies and symptom management — Beacon Psychotherapy offers intensive psychodynamic therapy in Los Angeles for people who want to understand themselves more deeply and change in a lasting way.
The Age of Acceleration
We're living in an age of acceleration. The world we grew up with is similar enough, but when we stop and think, so much of our day-to-day has changed. The endless scroll on our phones, the constant meetings on Zoom, the anxiety about what the future holds. Sometimes it can feel good to feel the speed — the constant rush, the convenience. And yet at other times it can feel exhausting, lonely, demoralizing even.
The Conventional Answer
Society's answer is to go faster. More plans, more excitement, more achievement. To do it all and to look and feel good doing it — or to have failed. And if that doesn't work, perhaps a substance or a pill will help you get right. And yet what is meant to lead to feelings of joy, success, and vitality often leads to the very opposite. To feeling lonely, never good enough, a failure.
Another Way
In an age of acceleration, when the world and our lives can feel so fractured, there is another answer beyond just doubling down. When we build the psychological flexibility to fully feel and process our experience — to turn down the guilt and toxic shame that holds us back, to think and to feel deeply about who we are — we get unstuck. The waves of acceleration no longer have the power they once did to bowl us over.
What Psychodynamic Therapy Actually Does
Psychodynamic therapy helps us get to the heart of our pain. The loneliness, the dissatisfaction, the self-judgment and self-doubt. Rather than offering advice or quick tips about how you're supposed to think, psychodynamic therapy provides space to understand how unconscious thoughts and feelings get in the way of feeling good, solid, and grounded.
If you are struggling — with your relationships, your sense of self, or simply a feeling that something important is missing — that is exactly where this work begins. You don't need to have it figured out before reaching out.
If this sounds like the work you're looking for, I'd welcome a conversation.
